Minibuses
Competing minibuses in narrow streets of Aberdeen.
PUBLIC LIGHT BUSS (PLBs) are minibuses with not more than 16 seats. Their number is fixed at a
maximum of 4,350 vehicles. Some PLBs are used on scheduled services (
Green minibuses) and
others on non-scheduled services (
Red minibuses).
GREEN minibuses (GMBs) operate on
fixed routes and frequency at fixed fares.

By the end of June 2014, there were 69
main green minibus routes on Hong Kong
Island, 79 in Kowloon and 196 in the New
Territories, employing a total of 3,117
vehicles.

Green minibuses carry about
1,503,700 passengers daily.

You pay for your ride when boarding a
Green minibus and almost all accept the
Octopus Card.
RED minibuses (RMBs) are free to
operate anywhere, except where special
prohibitions apply, without fixed routes or
fares.

By the end of June 2014, there were 1,233

Red
minibuses carrying about 347,000
passengers daily.

You pay for your ride when alighting a
Red
minibus and this is strictly
cash only.
Drivers can give change.

Note that
Red minibuses have a rather
poor safety record....
